About the Author

I was raised on a farm in South Carolina, so my Southern roots run deep, as does my love for family. Put them together, and I write Christian historical romance novels.

However, I was blessed to work thirteen years in the corporate world as a Senior Manager and Director of Process & Training. As you can imagine, this vibrantly awoke the left side of my brain. Now, I analyze the budget impact and ROI (return on investment) for everything—even my creative works!

With so many books available, and so many marketing opportunities jumping in our faces as authors, how do we sort the chaff to find our personal wheat? As I released my debut novel, then my second, and third, I couldn’t stop analyzing the data (a spreadsheet habit is hard to kick). I began to realize certain marketing efforts worked better for me than others (in the business world we call these best practices). Not every effort to market or advertise is right for every scenario. I narrowed my efforts initially to what seemed to work best for me and my books (the low-hanging fruit). Now I’m gradually expanding my reach to cover the other areas to bring additional impact.

Who am I? I’m a USA Today bestselling author of inspirational romantic mountain stories set on the 1800s frontier. With over 45 novels published, I write as both an indie author and for Bethany House Publishers. I’m also the owner and Publisher of Wild Heart Books, a traditional publisher specializing in Christian Historical Romance novels.

After thirteen years working in professional project management and marketing, I left the corporate world in 2015 to write full-time and have been making mid-6 figures ever since. As a #1 Strategic (Clifton Strengths), I love to test new strategies and develop best practices in my writing and book marketing efforts, and it’s my passion to help other authors on this journey.

I’ve taught at more conferences than I can count, both regional and national, including the American Christian Fiction Writers national conference (5 times) and InkersCon in 2023 (an incredible experience!).

    Dear Misty,

This blog arrived here for the first time this morning. Good for you and good for your readers.
I thought it was very well done, not too much and just enough to whet someone’s appetite to read more
and become a part of your family.

My two books seem to be slogging along. We are in the 5th edit on “Wounds of War” and
my Indiana publisher from “The World as it was…..” may have gone out of business since I haven’t heard
from them in more than a month. Egad! Publishing is a b_____.
